Record-Breaking Auction: Jordan Rookie Card and Kelce Super Bowl Jersey

The Goldin Elite Auction in August captured the attention of sports collectors worldwide with its impressive lineup of high-end modern sports cards and memorabilia. The auction saw multiple items cross the six-figure mark, setting new records and solidifying the allure of sports collectibles in both vintage and modern categories.

At the forefront of the auction was the sale of a PSA 8 1984-85 Star Company Michael Jordan rookie card, which fetched an astonishing $244,000, breaking previous records for that grade. The momentum for Jordan’s rookie card was further highlighted by a PSA 7 version that sold for $62,000 on eBay, signaling a growing interest in one of the most iconic basketball cards of all time. Additionally, a PSA 6.5 Jordan rookie card was sold for $52,460, showcasing the strong demand for these historic pieces.

A standout in the modern baseball category was a 1-of-1 2009 Bowman Sterling Red Refractor Autograph card of MLB star Mike Trout. Graded PSA 9, the card fetched $192,030, reflecting the enduring appeal of Trout’s collectibles despite his recent injury setbacks. Two other modern baseball cards that set new records were a 2011 Bryce Harper Bowman Chrome Red Refractor #5/5, graded PSA 9, selling for $184,720, and a 2014 Mookie Betts Bowman Chrome Red Refractor #3/5, graded PSA 10, earning $123,220.

The auction also featured rare SuperFractor cards, with the 2024 Topps Chrome Autographed SuperFractor Elly De La Cruz PSA 10 commanding $116,534, and a Jackson Holliday SuperFractor PSA 10 selling for $68,527, setting new high prices for these emerging players. A dual autograph Ronaldo/Messi SuperFractor from 2023-24 Topps UEFA sold for $67,100 after being graded PSA 9, adding to the excitement of the auction.

On the memorabilia side, the highlight was Travis Kelce’s 2020-21 Super Bowl LV jersey, photomatched to the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which sold for $52,460. Kelce’s AFC Championship ring from the same season also drew attention, selling for $34,404. An Aaron Judge 2017 rookie season jersey, linked to his impressive 52 home runs that year, was another notable memorabilia sale at $51,240.

Additional top sales from the auction included a 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes RPA #77/99 for $95,770, a 2018 Bowman Orange Refractor Shohei Ohtani #22/75 PSA 9 for $74,450, a 1996 Mariano Rivera game-used jersey photomatched to eight trading cards for $51,240, and 1969 Topps Football Series 1 and Series 2 wax boxes selling for $32,940 and $31,721, respectively.

The Goldin Elite Auction once again demonstrated the enduring appeal and value of sports collectibles, with record-breaking sales showcasing the passion and dedication of collectors in pursuit of these prized items.
