REA’s March Auction Sets Record Sales

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) celebrated an overwhelmingly successful March Encore sale, showcasing the passion and enthusiasm of vintage card collectors worldwide. The event truly made its mark by shattering multiple records, with one of the standout highlights being the sale of a 1933 V353 World Wide Gum Canadian Goudey #80 Babe Ruth card in a PSA EX-NM 6 condition, fetching a staggering $32,400.

But the excitement didn’t stop there, as the auction witnessed more remarkable sales that set new benchmarks in the collecting world. A 1911 E94 George Close Candy Ty Cobb graded SGC POOR 1 and a 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder in a PSA EX 5 with a Tolstoi Back sold for $28,000 and $27,600, respectively, showcasing the enduring value of these iconic players in the history of the sport.

With a total of over 3,300 lots up for bid, the auction generated an impressive sum of more than $1.3 million, drawing in nearly 66,000 bids from eager collectors vying for their coveted pieces of history. Among the many highlights were a 1976 Topps #500 Reggie Jackson in a PSA GEM MINT 10 condition, sold for $30,000, a 1980-1981 Topps Basketball Larry Bird/Magic Johnson Rookie graded PSA MINT 9, fetching $25,200, and a 1948-1949 Leaf #79 Jackie Robinson Rookie in a PSA VG+ 3.5, which went for $23,400.

The record-breaking streak continued with notable sales such as a 1911 M110 Sporting Life Cabinet Honus Wagner in a PSA GOOD 2 (MK) going for $14,400, and a 1951 Bowman #253 Mickey Mantle Rookie graded SGC GOOD+ 2.5 also selling for the same price. These results underscored the enduring appeal and value of these legendary players in the world of collectibles.

The auction also saw impressive prices fetched by rare items, further cementing the passion and dedication of collectors in pursuit of exceptional pieces. An Extremely Rare 1921 Schapira Bros. Candy Babe Ruth box part sold for $10,800, while an 1888 N28 Allen & Ginter John Clarkson graded PSA EX-MT 6 reached $8,100, setting new records and showcasing the enduring allure of vintage collectibles.

Noteworthy sales that added to the auction’s success included a Billy Southworth Single-Signed Baseball, a 1909-1911 T206 White Border Cy Young Portrait in a PSA POOR 1 with a Brown Hindu Back sold for $7,500, and a 1934 R320 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig in a SGC GOOD+ 2.5 condition fetched $5,280, setting new benchmarks for these coveted items.
