Panini America Partners with PFL for Trading Card Deal

Panini America, a powerhouse in the world of sports and entertainment collectibles, has joined forces with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) in a multi-year partnership that is set to shake up the MMA trading card industry. This groundbreaking collaboration signals a new era in the world of sports memorabilia, promising fans innovative and exciting products to add to their collections.

The partnership between Panini and PFL will kick off with the launch of Panini Instant, a real-time platform that will offer MMA fans direct access to exclusive collectibles. Following this debut, fans can anticipate the release of PFL Prizm later in the year, a highly anticipated product that is expected to become a cornerstone in the trading card category.

Jason Howarth, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Athlete Relations at Panini America, has expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership, citing the PFL’s rapid growth and global appeal as contributing factors. He believes that this collaboration will further enrich the MMA trading card market, which is already a vibrant segment of Panini’s portfolio. The aim is to provide fans with unique opportunities to engage with the sport through collectibles featuring PFL athletes and events.

Bryan Calka, Chief Commercial Officer of the PFL, shares Howarth’s excitement, acknowledging Panini America’s status as a leader in the collectibles industry. He emphasizes the PFL’s dedication to delivering premium experiences to MMA fans worldwide, a commitment that is expected to be elevated through this partnership with Panini.

One of the most innovative aspects of this collaboration is the inclusion of digital trading card collectibles, including NFTs. By incorporating digital formats alongside traditional physical cards, the partnership aims to cater to the evolving preferences of collectors and offer them a diverse range of options to expand their collections.

The timing of this partnership aligns with the upcoming events in the PFL’s 2024 Global Season, which is set to resume on June 13 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. Athletes from six weight classes will compete for playoff berths and the chance to be crowned the PFL World Champion, along with a substantial $1 million prize.

Setting itself apart from traditional MMA formats, the PFL follows a sports-season structure akin to major league sports, with fighters engaging in a regular season, playoffs, and championship rounds. The league’s utilization of SmartCage technology for advanced fight analytics and an enhanced viewing experience has garnered attention, while its global expansion efforts through PFL Europe and PFL MENA demonstrate a commitment to broadening its reach.

Panini America, a subsidiary of the renowned Panini Group based in Italy, brings a wealth of experience spanning over 60 years in the collectibles industry. With an extensive network of partnerships across various sports and entertainment entities, Panini ensures the wide distribution of PFL trading cards, thereby increasing the visibility and appeal of both brands in the collectibles market.

The collaboration between Panini America and the Professional Fighters League marks a bold step towards revolutionizing sports memorabilia, fusing innovation with the excitement of MMA. Fans can look forward to a diverse array of collectibles that capture the dynamic essence of the sport and celebrate its talented athletes in a unique and engaging manner.
