Rare Vintage Sports Memorabilia and Cards Shine in REA’s January Encore Auction

The January Encore Auction at Robert Edward Auctions is a must-visit for collectors of vintage sports cards and memorabilia, as it offers a treasure trove of rare items dating back to the 19th century. With over 3,700 items spanning more than 180 years of sports history, this auction is a dream come true for enthusiasts.

One of the highlights of the auction is a signed 1842 receipt by baseball executive Alexander Cartwright, a true relic from the early days of America’s pastime. Another standout item is an 1888 tobacco card of John Clarkson, a prominent player from that era. These items not only have historical significance but also hold immense value in the collector’s market.

REA President Brian Dwyer expressed his excitement about the impressive collection of signed items and iconic cards in this auction, catering to collectors of all types. Legendary figures like Lou Gehrig, Walter Johnson, and Honus Wagner are featured with their signatures on various items. A particularly unique find is an 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco John Clarkson Throwing card, graded PSA EX 5, sure to be the pride of any collector’s display.

Among the other notable items are a 1883 Harry Wright-signed scorecard from a game between Philadelphia and Wright’s Providence Grays, showcasing the early days of organized baseball. A 1938 Lou Gehrig-signed postcard serves as a poignant reminder of the Iron Horse’s greatness. A 1924 Walter Johnson-signed album page takes us back to the golden age of pitching, while a 1939 Honus Wagner-signed Baseball Centennial First-Day Cover represents a milestone in baseball history. And of course, no collection would be complete without a Babe Ruth cut signature, the ultimate piece of memorabilia for any baseball fan.

The auction also features an impressive selection of vintage cards, capturing the essence of the eras in which they were produced. A 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle card, a true gem of the post-war era, is one of the prized cards up for grabs. A 1914 E145 Cracker Jack Grover Alexander rookie card offers a glimpse into the early days of baseball card collecting. The iconic 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card is another valuable addition to the auction. Several 1954 Topps #128 Hank Aaron rookie cards and a 1957 Topps Football Johnny Unitas rookie card add to the excitement for collectors of football and baseball cards.

The auction also presents a stunning collection of T206 cards, including rare finds like the Ty Cobb Portrait Red Background card and cards with rare Carolina Brights backs. Modern card enthusiasts will also find highlights, such as a 1986 Topps Football Steve Young rookie card and early Michael Jordan cards from 1984 and 1985.

This diverse and historically rich collection at the Robert Edward Auctions showcases the enduring appeal and value of vintage sports memorabilia and cards.
