Robert Edward Auctions Debuts 2024 with Historic Baseball Memorabilia and Rare Collectibles

Robert Edward Auctions is kicking off the year 2024 with a bang, presenting an extraordinary Encore event that showcases a remarkable collection of sports memorabilia. This auction encompasses almost 3,700 lots, making it exceptionally extensive and diverse. The highlight of this auction is the impressive selection of baseball items, some of which are the oldest and most unique ever offered in the world of sports memorabilia.

One particularly notable piece in this auction is a signed receipt from Alexander Cartwright, a renowned pioneer in baseball. This receipt, dating all the way back to 1842, not only stands out for its age but also for its direct connection to an influential figure in the sport’s early history.

Another extraordinary item from the 19th century featured in the auction is the extremely rare 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco John Clarkson “Throwing” card. This card, graded EX 5, is the sole PSA-graded example featuring the Hall of Fame pitcher and outfielder. Collectors will undoubtedly be eager to acquire such a true rarity in their collections.

In addition to these remarkable pieces, the auction also includes a personal scorecard that belonged to Harry Wright, a prominent figure in early baseball history. This one-of-a-kind item, scored in both pencil and blue ink, dates back to a June 22, 1883 game between Philadelphia and the Providence Grays, which Wright managed. Graded a 9 by PSA, the scorecard also bears Wright’s signature, adding to its historical significance.

Leading off the auction is a highly sought-after SGC 1.5 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, which is just one of the many Mantle items available. Over 250 autographed items, including those from iconic baseball figures of the past, are also featured in the auction to cater to the diverse interests of collectors.

Brian Dwyer, President of REA, expressed his enthusiasm for this Encore Auction, recognizing it as one of the strongest the company has ever had. Dwyer emphasized the wide selection of signed items and iconic cards, which come in various grades to accommodate collectors of all types.

Among the other exceptional items offered in REA’s January Auction are a 1914 E145 Cracker Jack #37 Grover Alexander SGC VG 3 card, a 1986 Topps Football #374 Steve Young Rookie SGC GEM MINT 10 card, a Babe Ruth cut signature, a 1938 Lou Gehrig signed postcard, a 1924 Walter Johnson signed album page, and a 1939 Honus Wagner signed Baseball Centennial First-Day Cover. The auction also features a trio of 1954 Topps #128 Hank Aaron rookie cards, a 1957 Topps Football #138 Johnny Unitas Rookie BVG NM-MT 8 card, and early Michael Jordan cards, among others.

As part of their tradition, all items in REA’s Encore Auctions have a starting bid of $10. Bidding for this extraordinary and historic collection is currently open on the company’s website and will continue until January 21, providing collectors and enthusiasts with an exclusive opportunity to own a piece of baseball history and rare memorabilia.
